0:50... Well done to him for showing her his true hospitality.👏🏽👏🏽🥰🥰I thought it was very rude of her to not thank him (and his wife) for the invitation and just going straight to "ok so what are we preparing today." She's not an island girl for sure. 😡😡😡😡... Thumbs down to this video👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

I am just learning about this wall. My mother's name is there. It would be nice if the gov. could replicate it as a traveling memorial for people in the US to enjoy, just as was done for the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Just want to repost this question I had for someone here for any Chamorro that can answer. I’m asking from a place of respect and learning. Here goes: “ As a Polynesian I recognize y’all’s heritage as people of Oceania. Considering the Spanish and Christian attempts to destroy Chamorro culture…my question is this : is this authentic, thousands of year old Chamorro dance/song…or is this a recreation using what’s survived colonialism and inspiration from other pacific island dances/song/etc? No shade intended, I’m actually really interested in cultural reconstruction after colonization and think that this is super cool. A lot of us Polynesians had the Christians and Europeans do a number on us. In Tonga, we became very Christian and even much of our old gods and tattooing traditions went away. Many modern tongan tay poets look to our closer brothers, the Samoans, to recreate tattooing (because Christians made that such a taboo for us) as well as written documentation/drawings from the first European explorers, missionaries and the first english speaking Tongans who could document. The Samoan tradition of tattooing survived….And ALL of us Polynesians are actively wanting to get back our navigational skills! In Hawaii we have the Polynesian Navigational Society that uses the remaining navigational skills remaining post-colonization to make voyages the way our ancestors did in order to re-learn skills from experience/trial and error. Hope you weren’t disrespected at all. People of Oceania must unite and take back our cultures/languages/customs/traditions/music. This is so important. Good on the Chamorro people!“

I attended Adelup Point School in 1947-1948 when I was about seven or eight years. It was a school primarily for children of the military. Our classes were held in Quonset huts with no air conditioning. Each morning our lunches were collected and put in refrigeration. Our recesses were on the beach. There was a foxhole left over from the war which a few of the boys climbed into until the teacher came and made them get out. One day I wandered too close to a wasp hive and got stung by a multitude of them-oh that was painful. I was fortunate to return to Guam last year and see the changes to the school. The Quonset huts were no longer there!
